Common Installation & Operation Issues
Power Supply & Grid Compatibility Issues
The power grid in our North American factory is 60Hz. We're using the AM521-0808TR-NA model, but it keeps throwing errors after power-on. What's wrong?
Chances are you wired the power terminals incorrectly. Even though the North American version is rated for 60Hz, its 24VDC input terminals L+ and M are easily mixed up with the live/neutral wires of local equipment--don't plug 240VAC directly into it! First, connect a 24VDC switching power supply and adjust the input range to 21.6-26.4VDC. Then test the ripple voltage; if it exceeds 100mV, add a filter. The errors will stop right away.
Voltage fluctuations are severe in our European workshop, and the PLC restarts randomly. Any cheap fixes?
No need to splurge on a high-end voltage regulator--just install a surge protector for the AM500. Motor startups in EU factories often cause voltage dips, and a surge protector can handle those instantaneous drops. Also, tighten the PLC's power terminals properly; high humidity in European workshops leads to terminal oxidation and poor contact. Check the terminal voltage with a multimeter weekly--it's way cheaper than replacing the power supply.
Network Communication Connection Issues
Our German client connected 10 servos via EtherCAT, but the axis synchronization error exceeds 50μs after startup. European and American brand PLCs don't have this problem--Is the AM500 underperforming?
It's not a PLC performance issue; you just didn't set the slave scanning order. European clients tend to wire servos out of sequence, but the AM500 scans slaves in physical order by default. Go to InoProShop, manually adjust the slave mapping, and set the master axis as the first scanned device. Also, replace regular office network cables with industrial shielded cables and ground the terminals properly. The error will drop below 30μs--just as stable as European and American brands.
We're using Modbus TCP to connect a touchscreen in our Southeast Asian factory. The PLC and screen are on the same network segment, but we can't detect the device. How to fix this?
First, check the PLC's IP address settings --many people leave it at the default 192.168.0.1, which conflicts with other equipment in the workshop. IP addresses are assigned randomly in most Southeast Asian factories, so change the AM500's IP to an unused one in the segment (e.g., 192.168.1.100), set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, and ping it--if it connects, you're good to go. Also, note that the AM500's default Modbus TCP port is 502--don't enter the wrong port number in the touchscreen settings.
