PowerFlex 520 VFD | Compact Size Conveyor Packaging Built-in Ethernet
PowerFlex 520 VFD | Compact Size Conveyor Packaging Built-in Ethernet
The PowerFlex 520 VFD is designed for space-constrained OEM applications like conveyors and packaging machinery. Its compact size lets you fit more drives into smaller cabinets, reducing enclosure footprint and cooling requirements. With built-in Ethernet (dual ports on the 525 model), you get native EtherNet/IP connectivity without an extra communication card—saving wiring, simplifying integration with Logix controllers, and enabling device-level ring (DLR) topologies for network redundancy.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What's the real difference between 523 and 525 that overseas customers often mix up?
523 is cheaper, only has Modbus, no safety functions; 525 has built-in Ethernet port and STO, which is basically required for European and American projects.
2. What to do if it reports undervoltage/overvoltage as soon as it's powered on?
Mostly due to unstable overseas power grid, phase loss, or wrong voltage selection (connecting 220V drive to 380V). First measure the input voltage.
3. What to do if it reports overcurrent during operation or trips immediately after startup?
Motor cable is broken/short-circuited, motor is leaking, or acceleration is too fast, parameters are mismatched. First test the drive without load to troubleshoot.
4. Common reasons for failing to connect EtherNet/IP to PLC?
IP is not in the same network segment, network cable is faulty, communication is not enabled on the drive, or old firmware is incompatible.
5. Overseas customers insist on STO safety function, how to choose 520 series?
Only 525 has built-in STO; 523 doesn't. For exports to EU and North America, choose 525 directly.
6. Why does the motor overheat, vibrate or make loud noise?
Carrier frequency is too low, motor parameters are not set correctly, or long cable causes strong interference. Properly increase the carrier frequency.
7. What to note after factory reset?
Factory reset on 520 series will clear all parameters. Be sure to back up parameters before commissioning, otherwise you have to reset them all.
8. Overseas customers only understand HP, not kW. How to handle it?
Convert directly by 1HP ≈ 0.75kW, and mark both kW and HP on nameplates and quotes.
9. What certifications are needed for customs clearance and export to EU and North America?
CE and UL/cULus certifications are a must; without them, customs clearance and acceptance will fail.
10. Can 520 series be used for hoisting and lifting equipment?
Not recommended. 520 is a light-duty type without forced braking capability, which is prone to slipping, and overseas customers generally don't allow it.
11. Is it easy to repair overseas if it breaks down?
Small faults can be repaired on-site; if the module is burned, it's basically only replaceable with a new one. Spare parts for 520 are not as many as expected, so it's better to replace the whole drive directly.
12. What to note for long-distance wiring (over 50 meters)?
An output reactor must be added, otherwise it's easy to report faults and burn the drive. Long-distance wiring is common in overseas construction sites.
